Fred Greenspan - About

With a background in museum education, Fred Greenspan has been performing traditional live puppet shows since 1983. Dressing in period costume, he provides an historic overview before each show. His performances can be seen at museums, libraries, schools, fairs, corporate family events, and special events of all kinds. Fred maintains the rascally nature of Punch without the stick slapping normally found in these shows, but includes many of the traditional routines.

Punch Professor Fred Greenspan has been featured and/or interviewed in the London Sunday Times, BBC Radio, Meridian Television, The New York Times, U.S.News and World Report, Hudson Valley Magazine and Spotlight Magazine. On Sunday, February 14, 1998 The New York Times ran a full page article on Fred Greenspan’s puppetry in the Westchester section.

In 1999 Fred performed, along with several dozen other Punch & Judy performers from around the world, at the Punch & Judy Faire held as part of The Puppeteers of America National Puppetry Festival at the University of Washington, Seattle. He has also performed at several Puppeteers of America Regional Festivals and has been a guest performer for the Puppetry Guild of Greater New York, The Puppetry Guild of Long Island, and the Yonkers Assembly of The Society of American Magicians.

Fred has a Masters Degree in Cultural Anthropology from Temple University, received his B.A. in Liberal Arts from Bard College, and is a graduate of the High School of Art & Design in New York City.
